There’s another cave house in Bend (sort of)
Waaaaaaay back in 2007, I wrote about a “cave house” in southeast Bend, literally a house built over a lava tube with a door granting access to the cave itself. I noticed the past couple of days that that old post is getting a bunch of traffic—likely because KTVZ ran a story on Sunday about homeowners discovering a large lava tube on their property and people are searching for it.
KTVZ’s story is a video, but here’s the blurb:
Suzanne and James Brierley say when they bought their home back in 2017, their realtor had mentioned a small cave was under their plot of land somewhere — but what they found was not what they expected.
Essentially it’s a lava tube on their 10 acre property, not actually beneath the house, and apparently much larger than they expected.
And it’s for sale. Based on DIAL, the address is 62802 Montara Drive, which is in northeast Bend not far from Big Sky Park. Here’s the Zillow listing—for nearly $1.8 million!
