Bend City Council meeting notes for January 2019
Here are the Bend City Council meeting notes for the month of January of this new year. It’s been an interesting month for the Council, with the swearing in of Mayor Sally Russell (Bend’s first directly elected mayor in almost a century) as well as two new councilors, and the selection of a third to fill Russell’s seat.
There was even a special meeting to select the councilor for the vacant seat on the 8th.

There’s some controversy regarding the appointment of Chris Piper to the Council, as he was not in anyone’s top choice of candidates for the seat. In particular Mayor Russell seconded the motion to appoint which surprised people since he wasn’t on her list at all. You can read more about it in The Bulletin here and The Source here.
And from the meeting on the 16th, among the visitor’s section comments there was this gem: “Craig Sheets spoke about dangers of jet airplanes, meth labs in the hills under towers, landfills, area 51, the mother ship.”
