The Dog Days Aren’t Over Yet
You know that Bend was recently named Dog Town USA by Dog Fancy, right? That’s because Bend has some pretty cool events for pups and their people. And, as if there weren’t enough to enjoy here in the summer, most of the canine variety also occur in the summer months.
I missed Unleash the Vision this year on August 11th, but I did attend the inauguration of the event last year and this year’s sounded just as fun. I won’t miss it again next year!
August 18th brought us the Ruff Run, benefiting Dog PAC, which is a 5K that you can run or walk with your dog. That was a lot of fun and you can check out the pictures here.
While those events are over for another year, the fun isn’t over yet. This Wednesday, the 29th, Ruff Wear will be out at Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe as part of their Pickin’ & Paddlin’ Music Series and Demo Days. Ruff Wear wants to see you and your best friend there so their experts can fit your dog in a canine life jacket. Maybe you can even try out a SUP with your friend while you’re there.
On Saturday, September 15th, the Humane Society of Central Oregon will be bringing us the Mutt Strut & More, a fundraiser for the shelter and a walk along the beautiful Deschutes River. After the walk, there will be festivities including contests for best costume, best tail wag, owner look-a-like, best dog trick, and a kissing booth. You can register for this event at the HSCO link or just enjoy the later festivities for free.
Not only are these fun, enjoyable events, they also help to support the services that got us named Dog Town USA. Now let’s get out there and show that we’ve earned that title!!
