The Deschutes County Fair kicks off today!
It certainly seems like this last month/summer/year has gone by fast, here it is August 1st already and the Deschutes County Fair is starting today! From today through Sunday the 5th you can take it all in: the animals, the Fair food, the vendors, the foods and crafts competition and judging, the carny games, the thrill rides, the rodeo and of course the concerts. This year’s concert lineup is:
- Wed: Chris Young
- Thu: Uncle Kracker
- Fri: Bad Company former lead singer Brian Howe
- Sat: Hot Chelle Rae
(I do have to wonder how a young, contemporary band like Hot Chelle Rae ends up playing a county fair…)
To get in, adult tickets are $10 for the day (or $19 for the “season”), kids 6 to 12 and seniors 62 and older are $6 ($11 for the season) and kids under 6 are free. Those don’t apply to the concert prices, though I believe if you have the concert tickets you’ll get into the Fair free that day.
My favorite part is always the animals and livestock and the judged exhibits, particularly the foods, for me that’s just what the Fairs are all about. And Fair food is good too, in a totally not-good-for-you way; curly fries and elephant ears, anyone?
Concerts are free with a ticket and paid fair admission. No free fair admission with a ticket, as far as I know.
Also, tickets are free and ONLY available today from 2-7 p.m. at area McDonald’s. After that, they are gone … or so the fair says. Who knows if they’ll be handing them out at the door or whatever.
Awesome, thanks for the clarification! I can never quite remember those details.
Ross at the Fairgrounds must have a Magic 8 ball that tells him what bands are up and coming. He booked Lady Antebellum before they “hit it big” and they had a popular single out about the time they played at the fair too.
