Yoko’s, Camalli Books closing
Sad news for fans of Yoko’s, Bend’s first Japanese restaurant: they closed the eastside restaurant at the end of July, after struggling financially with high rent and high costs of importing seafood. (According to the Bulletin article.) I’m sorry to see them close myself; I wasn’t a frequent visitor but I enjoyed the conveyor belt that ran around the restaurant with sushi on it and I thought they had good food.
And meanwhile, over on the westside, Camalli Books is also planning to close at the end of this month. The Bulletin article cites the economy (of course) and the rise of e-book readers like the Amazon Kindle in the decision to close; the final day will be the 26th and it sounds like everything will be on sale (“even the fixtures”) leading up to that.
