Supervolcanoes and Flood Basalts @ Worthy Brewing

January 15, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

ONDA is kicking off the 2019 Bend High Desert Speaker Series with geologist Daniele McKay presenting on high desert supervolcanoes and flood basalts. Note that registration via Eventbrite is required for this free event as space is limited. From massive caldera eruptions to lava flows that can be found throughout the state, Oregon’s volcanic history has played an important role in shaping the stunning landscapes and waterways of the high desert. Come to learn about how geologic events have created the awe-inspiring wild places ONDA works to protect.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Daniele is a geology instructor at the University of Oregon and is based in Bend. She studies volcanic activity and has focused much of her research on central Oregon volcanoes. When Daniele isn’t leading students into the field and sharing her research in the classroom, you might find her hiking, skiing or teaching other community members about the incredible volcanic landscapes that surround us.

EVENT NOTES: Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. The presentation will be held in Worthy Brewing’s Hop Mahal room, located in the far right corner of the main restaurant. You are welcome to have dinner and drinks in the restaurant prior to doors opening. This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and pre-registration via Eventbrite (linked above) is required.
