Scavengers of the Sky: Cooperation in Carrion-eating Birds @ McMenamins
March 8, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeHigh Desert Museum Natural History Pub
Different species of scavenging birds use a spectrum of fascinating strategies to find food, and vary in their ability to access meat even after a carcass is discovered. Local researchers studying scavenger ecology will illuminate fascinating relationships of the carrion-eating world. Biologists from OSU Cascades and the High Desert Museum will present a program on a mulit year experiment testing whether raptors help ravens to access meat and whether ravens help raptors to find carcasses. Matt Orr, assistant professor of biology at OSU Cascades and Jon Nelson, curator of wildlife at the High Desert Museum, will present this pub.
Join us for beer and history, sponsored by the the High Desert Museum, Des Chutes Historical Museum, the Oregon Encyclopedia, and McMenamins, in which you’ll hear lively local and regional history while you enjoy a frosty pint or two of handcrafted ale.
