Brandi Carlile @ Les Schwab Amphitheatre
August 5, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$39Brandi Carlile’s music is a mix of alt-country, Americana, rock and folk. It is her stunning voice that has captivated listeners since her debut in 2005. The most well-known Brandi Carlile tunes, The Story and That Wasn’t Me, are dynamic journeys in themselves, encompassing myriad emotions and varied stylistic touches.
Carlile’s most recent album The Firewatcher’s Daughter earned the singer-guitarist her first Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. Carlile and her indispensable collaborators, Phil and Tim Hanseroth (on bass and guitar), have always offered listeners both control and abandon, often within a single song. Take a listen to The Things I Regret, Eye and The Stranger at My Door off this album.
“My goal,” she says, “is to connect on a soul level with our longtime fans and friends, and to reach new people with the honesty of this music.” – Carlile
Margo Price opens the show and is an American singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Fader has called her “country’s next star.” Her debut solo albumMidwest Farmer’s Daughter was released in spring 2016.
Throughout Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, Price recalls hardships and heartaches – the loss of her family’s farm, the death of her child, problems with men and the bottle. Her voice has that alluring mix of vulnerability and resilience that was once the province of Loretta and Dolly. It is a tour-de-force performance that is vivid, deeply moving and all true. Price adds fresh twists to classic Nashville country, with a sound that could’ve made hits in any decade.
As Price reflects on her hopes for what listeners might get from these songs. “I hope that the record helps people get through hard times or depression. That’s ultimately what music did for me in my childhood, and especially in my early adult years. It’s about being able to connect personally with a song, and hopefully, it makes you feel not so lonely.”
