Hard to believe that Bend’s best alt-weekly newspaper, The Source, is a quarter of a century old—but it’s true! The paper was launched in 1997 and turned 25 just this month, which means there have been about 1,300 issues published since then! In many ways, the story of the Source … Continue reading
First of all, just to be clear, The Bulletin isn’t going away, at least not in the near future. But it’s definitely been an interesting year and a rocky road that I’m sure has had more than a few people questioning the state of things. Here’s a quick recap: The … Continue reading
Gotta love The Source: today they have an article about the Bend Zine Library, something I had no idea existed—indeed, in the back of my mind I had thought with the rise of the web and blogging and easy self-publishing, zines had mostly disappeared. I’m glad to know I’m wrong! … Continue reading
It’s time for another “Best Of” list, this time from Central Oregon Magazine. They have their survey online for the Best of 2010 reader’s choice awards, and promise to run the results in their Winter (January) issue. They have lots of eclectic categories (“Most Popular Plastic Surgeon”, “Best Local Rumor”, … Continue reading
I was going to blog about the Bulletin‘s E-edition (online pay-to-read news) finally offering free access to paid dead-tree subscribers (which I reported as a rumor here), but there’s really nothing I can say that will top Jake’s post. So go read that instead. The headline alone is worth it.
The latest issue of The Source on stands now is their annual Best of Central Oregon issue, and as usual, it’s pretty much the definitive "Best Of" guide for the area. (Sadly, I don’t see it online.) The picks range from the (mostly) serious ("Best Public Art", "Best Radio Station") … Continue reading
The new Summer 2007 issue of Gusto is out, and it features their 2007 Reader’s Choice Awards for local restaurants. And you all know I’m a sucker for "Best Of" lists, right? (As an aside, have I never blogged about Gusto here before? Apparently not… it’s the ultra-glossy "premiere" magazine … Continue reading
Bend Living magazine has a "Best of Bend" survey up on their site for people to fill out. It’s for their annual Best of Bend issue that comes out in the summer (I think), which is fluff but fun to read. You have until May 7th to complete the survey, … Continue reading
I just found out today that The Redmond Spokesman—Redmond’s local weekly newspaper—has a blog, where they seem to be posting both bullet-point summaries of their news and longer articles. Good deal; they actually have a domain name but no site or other online presence out there—nice to see they’ve set … Continue reading
Pointers to a couple of dead-tree (yet online) articles I thought were good: The Town That Doesn’t Want to Bend: Walla Walla citizens see Bend as a model of how not to grow: The Source Weekly‘s cover story this week. It’s less about Bend than Walla Walla, but at the … Continue reading
