Beer’ducation: Nitrogenated vs Carbonated @ Crux Fermentation Project

December 13, 2016

Join us in exploring the wonderful nuances and breadth of craft beer every Tuesday evening in our Tasting Room. Our BEER’DUCATION SERIES of beer menu specials are designed to stimulate greater appreciation and understanding of craft beer through the self-guided experience of comparing and contrasting variations in styles and brewing processes. Each Tuesday evening, a different Crux beer will be highlighted via a special beer menu offering that includes a tasting guide to help you make the most of your experience.

This week we compare two hop-forward beers, 1 Nitrogenated and 1 Carbonated:

ON THE FENCE—Nitro | NW Pale Ale | 6.4 ABV, 50 IBU
High hop aroma and flavor due to late hopping in the hopback. Low to moderate maltiness with some caramel malt character. Bitterness is medium to high. Body is medium and low to moderate fruity notes generated by the yeast. Not sure if you want a pale ale or an IPA, this is the beer for you.

VS.

OFF LEASH—CO2 | Session IPA | 4.5 ABV, 30 IBU
Debuted at an event that crowned our hometown, “Dog Town USA,” this light-hearted ale bounds with regional Citra, Centennial and Crystal hops for those citrusy notes beloved by Northwest hop hounds. We’ve nudged the malt bill in the other direction, for a sessionable ale that’s easy to love.
