Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club celebrates 20 years
Do you like trains? How about model trains? Then you should check out the Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club and their open house next weekend—they’re celebrating their 20th annual Family Fun Day.
From 10am to 4pm both Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th, you’ll be able to check out the model trains, take rides on the outdoor railroad, and more. If you haven’t been it’s pretty impressive, particularly the outdoor railroad.
Here’s a little primer on the models they maintain:
We call our indoor railroad the Eastern Cascades Railroad. The ECRR is HO scale (1:87), presently with 1900’ feet of track. The outdoors branch of the club, the Central Oregon Area Live Steamers (COALS), has built a 1½ inch scale (1:8) railroad, now with over one mile of track on 20 acres.
Both the HO and the 1½” railroads are in a permanent state of development. The HO layout is continuously experiencing refinement as track revisions and new scenery are added to improve the railroad’s operations and realism. Outside, an additional 1000 feet of track was added in 2008 for a new northeast loop that was ready for the 2009 Open House.
