Ever wonder how your favorite spot was named? History Pub celebrates the publication of Central Oregon Place Names, Vol. 3: Deschutes County. Join Bowman Museum historian and author Steven Lent in an exploration of the history behind some of Deschutes County’s most recognizable geographic names.
About the Speaker
Steve Lent has been the historian at the Bowman Museum in Prineville since 2002. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science degree in history in 1972. Most of his working career was in fire management on the Ochoco National Forest and Prineville Bureau of Land Management. He has written six books on local history and includes the two previous volumes on Crook and Jefferson county place name, Islands in Time, and three books in the Arcade Images of America series on Prineville, Madras and Crook County. In 2001 he received a commendation award from the American Association of Local History and in 2014 he received the Daughters of the American Revolution Medal for Historic Preservation.
