McMenamins’ new O’Kanes Garage Series beer tastings
This Friday, July 31, the first of the new quarterly O’Kanes Garage Series beer tastings is taking place at McMenamins Old St. Francis School (at O’Kanes, appropriately enough). The idea behind this new series is pretty cool: the brewers (led by Mike “Curly” White) will be recreating popular and award-winning beers from other McMenamins breweries that have appeared over the past 30 years. That’s a lot of history and recipes to choose from!
The beer being showcased this week is Barn Owl Bitter, an easy-drinking 4.77% alcohol ale originally brewed at McMenamins’ Cornelius Pass Roadhouse:
A Cornelius Roadhouse classic, Barn Owl Bitter (aka “Bob”) is a creation of longtime Roadhouse brewer-turned-distiller Bart Hance. This ale is clean, crisp, and packed with Simcoe hop goodness. For a special release at OSF we have recreated this ever popular beer for all to enjoy and revel in here in Central Oregon! Enjoy a pint and see how other McMenamins Breweries create great beer too! Prost!
The tasting starts at 5pm and lasts through the evening. And if you don’t get a chance to sample the beer during the event Friday, never fear—it was brewed as a full six-barrel batch so it should show up on tap at the pub as well.
