Check out the Summer Shootout Marble Tournament this Saturday
This Saturday the 14th is the annual Summer Shootout Marble Tournament for kids taking place at the Des Chutes Historical Museum from 10 to 2. The tourney is split into two categories: kids ages 7 to 12, and “Young at Heart” ages 13 and older. Here’s the press release:
Kick off summer vacation at the Summer Shootout Marble Tournament, Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Des Chutes Historical Museum, 129 NW Idaho Avenue in Bend.. The event begins at 10 a.m. In addition to tournament play, there will be marble-free play throughout the day, lawn games and other fun activities for families. Marble enthusiasts and beginners are all welcome to play and compete for a chance at the title of Marble Champion 2014.
Marble competition will be in two categories: children ages 7 to 12 and 13 and older. Previous marble playing experience not needed! A warm-up and marble ‘shooting’ lessons will be provided prior to beginning of tournament play.
Prizes for each category are as follows:
Children 7 to 12
- Grand Prize: Schwinn Bicycle from Gear Peddler
- 2nd Place: Art Station and Sun Mountain Fun Center Gift Certificates
- 3rd Place: Wabi Sabi gift basket
Young at Heart 13 and older
- Grand Prize: Schwinn Cruiser Bicycle from Gear Peddler
- 2nd Place: Family passes to SHARC Water Park
- 3rd Place: Old Mill District Gift Certificate
Tournament registration is open and cost $10.00 per person. Registration information and forms are available by going to the Museum’s website, www.deschuteshistory.org. Admission to the museum included in registration fee. In addition to the marble shootout and Museum activities, families will have the opportunity to visit booths from fellow non-profits to learn about fun summer programs happening around Central Oregon.
Sponsored by The Bulletin and Gear Peddler, all proceeds from the event benefit the Des Chutes Historical Museum’s educational programs. This should be a great time and worth checking out. I’ve seen one of the grand prize bikes and it’s pretty sweet, and those other prizes aren’t too shabby either. If your kids are interested in participating, the Museum will accept registrations up until 10am Saturday, so there’s plenty of time to sign up!
