The Harlem Globetrotters!
I saw a blurb about this during the news tonight and you know I had to blog about it: the Harlem Globetrotters are going to be at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds on February 24th as part of their 2009 World Tour(!).
Ticket prices are ranging from $16 to $61 and they are available from Ticketmaster online, or through one of our local outlets: the Ticket Mill in the Old Mill District, Joe’s up north, and the Expo Center itself.
I bet that’s going to be a really fun show.
Went to see the Harlem Globetrotters with the fam last night. The trotters were fun to watch, good blend of comedy and excitement. Kids loved it too.
The expo center really let me down though. Such a dissapointment.
1. Expensive tickets. Okay, so 20 for the crappy seats. And I mean crappy. The court was bordered on each end by like 50 feet of empty concrete. 70 for the good seats.
The rediculous part was that they didnt really care where you sat once you got in the venue. I feel sorry for anyone who paid for anything more than the 20 tickets, because my family (and a couple others around us) all just sat at halfcourt (i dunno, 50ish dollar section) and no one cared, checked our tickets, etc.
2. Ticketing. We arrived at 6:30 and didn’t get into the venue until 6:55!! They had literally TWO people at ticket windows, with a line that stretched over a hundred people, almost exclusivly families…in the windy cold night. Bastards. I’m sure they turned people away. The line was longer than when we got there by 7 (when the game started). Meanwhile, inside the venue I saw about 15 Expo staff milling about…staff that could have been used at the second (blacked out) ticket window to bring people inside from the cold.
3. Concessions. Huge price gouging. $3 sno-cones, $5 hotdogs, etc. Nothing healthy/vegetarian, just crap food. Expensive crap food.
4. Water fountains. Disabled/turned off. Yep, that’ll be $3 for a bottled water. I dubbed the expo center the offical ‘Water fountain nazis’. I also think they’re breaking some kind of law by doing this…
5. Sound system. I dont know whether their sound system is just old, or the globetrotters/event equipment is poor, but the acoustics in that place are awful. The place was just a concrete cave during that event, really just terrible.
6. No BEER! Are you kidding me? A basketball game without beer? In Oregon?! So I was curious and had this conversation with a fellow working the concession stand:
me: heh, no beer tonight?
guy: yeah, i know. you guys should sign a petition or something.
me:(laughs)yeah. I mean, it s a basketball game, right?
guy: I came in yesterday and was surprised too. I usually pour beer at events here. They said no beer, it’s supposed to be a family event.
me:(looks disapointed)
guy: (appologizes and mumbles something about management.)
So in conclusion ladies and gentlemen! Be cautious when attending an event at the Deschutes County Expo Center. They sucked last night. Sucked bad. I’m very dissapointed.
I enjoyed the globetrotters, it’s good wholesome goofy fun. Thanks for ruining it Expo managment!!!
